Recommended ANSI Settings

For a number of commands, such as mnwho, mnpage, etc., we're relaying text from some other MU* back to yours. Some of that text is intended to be colorized or highlighted, using ANSI color. When the bot receives ANSI codes, they're generally in the form of raw escape codes, strings that begin with the ESC character (ascii 27), followed by [, some semicolon-separated numbers, and ending in m.

If we pass these escape codes directly on to your MU*, chances are they won't be handled correctly. Most servers strip the ESC character from input. So we offer several ways of translating the escape codes back into softcode "percent substitutions" that your MU* will understand (sorry, no ansi() function), or you can choose to have us send no ANSI at all.

These recommendations describe what's generally available on each MU* server, but keep in mind these settings are options. You're free to select 'strip flash' if you just don't want anyone sending you flashing text, for example. If you change your mind later, it's probably easiest to communicate that to us by resubmitting the form with a note at the bottom.

PennMUSH Select '%v/%w translation', and leave all the checkboxes unchecked. We'll store ANSI codes in some of the v- and w- attributes.
Older TinyMUSH Select 'none -- strip all ANSI'.
Newer TinyMUSH Select '%x translation', and leave all unchecked.
RhostMUSH, MUX2 Select %c or %x translation, and leave all unchecked.
ChaoticMUX Select '%c translation', and leave all unchecked.
Older TinyMUX Select '%c translation', and check 'strip underline'.
MURE Select '%c translation', and check all the ansi options except 'strip highlight'.
ColdCore Select 'none -- strip all ANSI'.
Other If you know about color support in another server, please tell us so we can add it.
